What leads to varicose veins?

Cause of varicose veins. Why Vericose veins?

The most common pressure inducers are:

~ Long standing hours for months/years together

~ Obesity or overweight

~ During pregnancy

~ Hereditary

~ Leg injury

~ Extensive consumption of alcohol

~ Sedentary lifestyle

Because superficial veins have less muscle support than deep veins, they are more likely to become varicose. Any condition that puts excessive pressure on the legs or abdomen can lead to varicose veins.

What happens in vericose veins?

The deoxygenated blood which is supposed to reach from the feet back to the heart is not able to reach its destination because of the weak valves of the veins. The valves are not able to prevent the blood from flowing towards the ground which leads to collection of deoxygenated blood in the lower portions of the leg. This leads to heaviness and pain in the ankles and calves. Some people start to see purple veins right under the skin, for some the veins start to bulge. In a few cases, it may lead to restless leg syndrome.
