How To-33: "How to Get Your Children up in the Morning"

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Ever have trouble getting your children up on weekends? Have they been late for school because they refuse to get out of bed? If so, keep reading!

Steps

  1. Set an alarm clock. It should have a noticeable ring, but not deafening. Set it for the time they need to get up and put it by their bed.
  2. If they don't get up when the alarm clock rings, shake them a bit and say "rise and shine" "time to get up" or something like that.
  3. If that didn't work, try flickering the lights on and off a few times (maybe even to the tune of a song).
  4. If they woke up but refuse to get out of bed, try pulling the cover off of them.
  5. If that didn't work, gently push them out of bed.
  6. If they get back in, simply say "breakfast is on the table". That will likely get them up.
  7. If it doesn't, then push them out of bed again, dress them, and lead them to the table.
  8. If they go try to get back in bed say, "If you get back in bed your going to miss the bus, and I wont drive you if you do." From the looks of, it they're already tired as it is and probably won't want to walk or ride their bike. If THAT doesn't get them up and ready for school, nothing will.

Tips

  • You shouldn't do the covers thing if its really cold.
  • Make sure school isn't closed before you wake them up.
  • If they want to go back to sleep when they come home, let them. They had a hard day.

Warnings

  • Never wake them up before they need to be up. After all, they deserve SOME rest in the morning.
  • When pushing them out of bed, gently push them, and don't shove.
  • Don't flicker the lights on and off if your child has a vision problem. It may damage their eyes further.
