AWARENESS: eSANJEEVANI

*eSanjeevani is the national telemedicine service of India, a digital health platform* *by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) that provides online medical consultations to citizens, aiming to bridge the urban-rural healthcare divide.*The service has two main components:*

eSanjeevani AB-HWC (Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centre): A doctor-to-doctor tele-consultation service implemented in a "Hub and Spoke" model, connecting health workers and general physicians in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (spokes) with specialists in district hospitals and medical colleges (hubs).

eSanjeevani OPD (Outpatient Department): A patient-to-doctor telemedicine service that enables people to receive outpatient consultations from the comfort and safety of their homes via a web-based portal or mobile app.

It offers timely and affordable medical interventions, particularly to underserved and remote populations, addressing the shortage of doctors and specialists at the ground level.

Convenience: Patients can access a wide range of specialties, including general medicine, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, and psychiatry, without needing to travel to a physical hospital.

Integration: The platform is a cornerstone of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and allows users to create and manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) and link health records.

Scale: Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Mohali, the service has facilitated over 276 million consultations nationally, making it one of the largest telemedicine platforms in the world.

The eSanjeevani OPD service is available through a web portal or dedicated mobile apps for Android and iOS smartphones, which have seen over 3 million downloads.
