CRAMPS AND HOMOEOPATHIC THERAPEUTICS
A cramp is a sudden, involuntary muscle contraction or overshortening; while generally temporary and non-damaging, they can cause significant pain and a paralysis-like immobility of the affected muscle. Muscle cramps are common and are often associated with pregnancy, physical exercise or overexertion, age (common in older adults), or may be a sign of a motor neuron disorders.Cramps may occur in a skeletal muscle or smooth muscle. Skeletal muscle cramps may be caused by muscle fatigue or a lack of electrolytes.
One may also experience cramps in:
Abdominal wall
Arms
Hands
Feet
The intense pain of a cramp can awaken a person at night or make it difficult to walk.
A sudden, sharp pain, lasting from a few seconds to 15 minutes, is the most common symptom of a cramp. In some cases, a bulging lump of muscle tissue beneath the skin can accompany a cramp as well.
Writer's cramp or focal hand dystonia (FHD) is an idiopathic movement disorder of adult onset, characterized by abnormal posturing and movement of the hand and/or forearm during tasks requiring skilled hand use, such as writing.
CAUSES OF CRAMPS
Cramps have several causes. Some cramps result from overuse of muscles. This typically occurs while exercising.
Muscle injuries and dehydration can also trigger cramps.
Low levels of any of the following minerals that contribute to healthy muscle function may also cause muscle cramps:
calcium
potassium
sodium
magnesium
Low blood supply to legs and feet can cause cramping in those areas when exercise, walk, or participate in physical activities.
In some cases, a medical condition can cause muscle cramps. These conditions include:
Spinal nerve compression, which can cause muscle cramps in legs when walking or standing
Alcoholism
Pregnancy
Kidney failure
Hypothyroidism, or low thyroid gland function
Other times, the cause of muscle cramps is unknown.

Cramps come on as a result of over exertion or from muscular fatigue. Limbs feels as if beaten. Cramps are better on starting to move and are worse from prolonged mivements, from heat and light pressure.

Cramps of sever nature,specially in calves, fingers and toes. Worse at night and on stretching.

Cramps in palms. Great weariness of limbs. Cramps in calves and soles. Epilepsy; auro begins in knees.
✔GELSEMIUM
Loss of power of muscular control. Cramp in muscles of forearm. Professional neuroses. Writer's cramp. Excessive trembling and weakness of all limbs. Hysteric convulsions. Fatigue after slight exercise.
