THE TRUTH ABOUT HOMEOPATHY

 

This is the title of the programme produced by the German TV channel ARD. The programme interviewed patients, medical homeopaths, scientists and sceptics.  Most of the patients interviewed expressed satisfaction with homeopathy.  When one patient was asked if he was aware that some consider that homeopathy is only placebo, his reply was straightforward: “I do not know if it is placebo or not. The only thing I know for sure is that I am better.”

 

David Sackett, who is considered one of the fathers of evidence-based medicine, defined this discipline as the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patients’ values.  It is time that the patients’ preferences and the clinical expertise are taken into account, without forgetting the importance of the best research evidence, which goes beyond randomised controlled trials.
