What is Autophagy and what are its benefits?

It's a natural process; autophagy literally means “self-eating ”.  It's  house-cleaning by the human system.

According to dictionary, autophagy in biology means:

consumption of the body’s own tissue as a metabolic process occurring in starvation and certain diseases.

"the process of starvation-induced autophagy was recently the focus of extensive research"

destruction of damaged or redundant cellular components occurring in vacuoles within the cell.

In other words, it is a processes by which our body cleanses out various debris, including toxins, and recycles components of cells which have been damaged. So in normal terms its basically our body getting rid of all the garbage going around. It is our body's own recycling system.

Autophogy has a lot of benefits. Actually, the benefits we derive from fasting are due to autophagy.

It makes our bodies more efficient.

It helps conserve our energy.

It helps fight infections.

It helps decrease inflammation.

It helps slow down the ageing process.

It helps improve iur muscles.
