In India, one in 2600 newborn babies and one in 3500 adults have thyroid affection. Thyroid gland is one of the largest endocrine glands and it secretes two hormones, viz., T-3 and T-4, which regulate the metabolism. Hypothyroidism(underactive thyroid) and Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) are the most common problems of the thyroid gland. They could cause not only serious physical problems like obesity, breathing problem, constipation, dry skin, itch, slow heartbeat and muscular pain but also mental problems like dullness, lack of interest in anything, especially studies (in the case of children). Brain growth is also impeded.
